If you want to own a gun in Illinois, chances are you will need a government license called a Firearm Owners Identification Card, commonly called a FOID Card.
If you want to actually carry it in your car or on you person, you will generally need a Concealed Carry License.
Like most things in government, it takes money and paper. Generally speaking you will need to take an approved 16 hour class, pay $150.00, and fill out an application.
