Like most things involving the government, it takes money and paper.
The cost in money is $10, which can only be paid by electronic check or credit card
WHERE DO YOU GET A FOID CARD
You get a FOID card from the Illinois State Police. It usually costs $10.00. Some military personnel can get one for free. To apply go to:

For your convenience, they have abolished paper applications you can simply mail in.
